Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My career started as a property manager and then medial aid broker. My focus then shifted heavily to sales, in which I’ve spent most of my career to date. I also have a background in the security industry, having worked for ADT Security and TYCO International which bodes well for my current role at Itec Tiyende. I’m a focused individual who’s willing to learn at all times. I’m also ambitious, and a team player who’s constantly looking for growth. My passion also lies in training, SMME Development and Community Projects.
What does your role entail at Itec Tiyende?
My role is that of Business Development Manager for the Western Cape region. My primary focus is on sales growth in the public sector in the areas of print management, document capture and retrieval, encompassing managed print services. I am also tasked with seeking and finding opportunities in telecommunications as telephony and collaboration (voice and video) is a key focus for government in the Western Cape. As my background entails digital security, I look for opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
Describe a typical day at the office for you.
If I am not prospecting for clients, I’m drafting proposals and quotations using our online sales tool. I also get involved in preparing sales stats for our head office in Johannesburg. Unassuming as they seem, these tasks can be quite involved.
What are some of the challenges and most satisfying aspects of your role?
The public sector market in the Western Cape is new for us. It’s a challenge and an opportunity at the same time in that we are breaking new ground while having to understand and be acquainted with government legislation, rules and regulations. The most satisfying aspect of my role is getting the deals done in the form of receiving department purchase orders, helping clients and establishing new relationships in government.
What stands out for you at Itec Tiyende? Is it the culture, the people or something else?
It’s certainly the company culture of collaboration which is embraced by all – from the top down.
What are some of the habits you follow consistently that help you excel at what you do?
